I have a 94 120 Force with the Merc ignition. I've rebuilt the trim motor, fuel pump, carbs and starter.

Simple motor to work on. I have always sprayed it with CRC or LPS, used never-sieze on the bolts and therefore have no corrosion problems. There are web sites you can order parts from such as ignition components (trigger, switch block, stator, etc), fuel pump kits, carb kits, etc. These motors will run for many years if you service them and prevent corrosion. They aren't high HP and therefore aren't stressed to the limit. I owned a Chrysler 125 before that (and rebuilt it) with the inverted distributor and am familiar with them. They are dinosaurs but are hard to kill.

Not fuel efficient. Buy a service manual. They are easy to work on and troubleshoot with a Volt/Ohm meter. I hope yours was taken care of. Mud Runner - 6:52 PM The 120 Force was not a speed demon and Force had a lot of issues.

The 120 if taken care of should give you good service. Some parts are available through Mercury dealers. I had an '89 that would just keep on tickin. The Force out board started as Chrysler, then US Marine, then Mercury, and then lost to history. Actually, the motors first started out as West Bend's, then Chrysler got into the boat business and bought them out. The smaller ones were also sold at Monkey wards years ago under the name of Sea King, either as solo units or as packages with their boats.

The largest 'Sea King' that I recall was a 55 hp model. I've had three of their motors and I'd take another one over a Ficht any day of the week. Thanks for the info.i just ordered a force manual online.so i can learn alil on how to care for it.today i noticed when i hooked up the ears to run the motor at home.that water wasnt coming out much.so i thought my water pump is out.so i bring it and drop it in the bay and it was pumping just fine.hmm.so i bring it back home.and it does the same thing. Hardly any water coming out.anyone seen this before? Should i just ahead and replace the water pump now?is it like slowly going out?i got good water pressure and held the ears tight to the lower unit to be sure i wasnt losing pressure. That pee'ing issue happens to me all the time to all the engines I work on at the house.

My water pressure isn't as powerfull as it should be to allow for free flowing cooling water through the cooling system. The result is a moderate to strong dribble. It's like that for the force 70, Evinrude 88 and twin Yami 200's so I'm certian it's not the pumps - just low water pressure. In the water, they all work fine. Just don't let it run too long on the 'ears' as the engine may overheat. Otherwise, my Force 70 has run very strong with little to no problems to date - other than the trim. Good Luck, cuonawv.

If you can turn wrenches you can replace the impeller. Tilt the motor up a little, remove the bolts and remove the lower unit. Just be carefull with frozen bolts. Observe the direction of the impeller vanes when you remove it and replace in the same manner. Clean bolt threads and install with never-seize. Use marine grease on shaft splines and a little on impeller to avoid a dry start. Turn shaft only clock-wise.

I would buy the kit, which includes gasket and plate. It sounds like it's pumping fine but you don't know the history of when it was last replaced and it might be cracked/burnt. Also, change the thermostat and gasket. Use never-seize on bolts.
